April (Midorikawa Nao in the original Japanese version), is one of the main characters in Glitter Force.

Her alter ego is Glitter Spring or (Cure March in the Japanese version.) She controls the power of wind and breeze.

Appearance

April

Nao has dark green eyes and short hair pulled up in a ponytail held by a yellow bow. Casually she wears an olive and yellow top with various badges on the chest, dark olive shorts, orange socks, and a pair of red and black boots. For summer, she wears a mint top with a pale camisole, denim skirt, and brown flats with olive socks.

Glitter Spring

As Glitter Spring, her eyes and hair brighten, and her hair becomes very thick, enough to be worn mostly in a ponytail and a short, curled pair of pigtails that frame her face like her forelocks. She wears a gold crown-like piece with a single wing, matching her earrings located on the helix of her ear, a dark green choker, and a white forehead piece with a green gem. Her short light green dress has dark green and white detail feathered wings decorated with two green spheres. On the chest is a green bow with a gold brooch, and hanging from the back of the skirt is a ruffled, pale olive coat-tail. She also gains emerald shorts, white and light green sleeves with dark green ribbon, and matching short boots with a green toe and heel.

Tiara Mode

In Tiara Mode, her tiara is replaced by a gold crown adorned by a green gem. She gains gold angel wings and gold ribbon earrings worn on the earlobe with a green heart in the middle.

Princess Spring

As Princess Spring, her thicker hair is worn the same way but has more pronounced curls. She gains the tiara and earrings from Tiara Mode, the wing in her hair turning gold and she gains a halo. Over her outfit is a ruffled pale mint dress with a ribbon on the back, and a mint and white striped ribbon on the chest, where her brooch resides. Her wrist pieces and boots are slightly altered.

Royal Mode

In Royal Mode, her hair grows out to be several times longer and her gold crown changes in design, gaining two green diamond gems to accent her new white choker. Her dress colors lighten, and a feathery pale mint piece covers the chest and hangs down the back, reminiscent of a long tail, her brooch resting on a pair of mint wings. Her feathered wrist pieces gain a green gem and ring, while her boots gain a wing-like cuff, with one at knee-length, the other reaching mid-lower leg. She obtains white wings.

Personality

April is said to have a strong sense of justice and does not easily forgive one's wrong actions. She is also known for her powerful courage, but despite her bravery, she has a big fear of insects and ghosts. At times she can become competitive when playing sports, and sometimes she may act forcefully around others, but she has a good heart and she is very popular for her kindness and talent.

April values her family very highly, as evidenced in her interactions with her parents and siblings. Her worst fear would be to lose them. She often takes care of her siblings when her parents cannot and she enjoys playing with them.

Relationships

Kelsey - The two share similar personalities, causing them to frequently compete. Despite their rivalry, they have a close friendship and are often shown together.

Emily - Emily admires April for her bravery and skill at sports, as well as her ability to look after so many siblings when her parents are not around. As such, Emily had a strong wish to get April to become a Glitter Force Warrior, and was overjoyed when she transformed into Glitter Spring, and joined the team.

April’s Siblings - April cares a lot about her six younger siblings. She loves them very much and she will do anything for them.

Chloe - These two are childhood friends and often seen together. They are on good terms with each other and help each other. They sit next to each other in class. Whenever April is scared, she has a tendency to cling to Chloe.

Etymology

April is the fourth month of the year, which is during spring and explains her warrior name of Glitter Spring.

Her Japanese name Midorikawa means "green river", while Nao means "straight" or "straightforward".

History

Glitter Spring

Glitter Spring poses after transforming

"A force as strong as life itself! I'm Glitter Spring!"

Glitter Spring is April's Glitter Force alter ego. She is the green member of the Glitter Force and she controls wind. This grants her the ability to run at super high speed. Her speed shows when she is attacking, making gust around her punches.

In Smile Pretty Cure!, her catchphrase is, "Intense courage, a straight up-bout! Cure March!" (勇気リンリン直球勝負!キュアマーチ! Yūki rinrin chokkyū sh ōbu! Kyua Māchi!)

Transformation

April's Glitter Pact opens. She puts her transformation Glitter Charm into a recess in the Glitter Pact and says, "Insert Glitter Charm!" Then, she says, "Glitter Force Makeover!" to begin her transformation. A powder puff emerges from the Glitter Pact, and as April grabs it, she says, "Glitter Puff! Apply shades of power!" She uses the puff to create a triangle of wind in front of her. Then, in magical gusts, her armbands appear (as she says, "Glitter Bands!"), followed by her boots ("Glitter Boots!") and her dress ("Spring has sprung!"). She then bends over and straightens up as her hair transforms. Finally, she taps the puff to her cheeks to make blush appear. Glitter Spring falls straight down from the sky. Upon landing, she shouts her catchphrase and strikes a pose.

Attacks

  • Sparkle Shot - Glitter Spring charges her Glitter Pact with spirit until it starts glowing. Then, a ball of wind forms before her and she kicks it at her target. As the ball flies towards the target, it turns into a green beam. The attack is first used in episode 4. In the original Japanese version, it is called March Shoot.
    • Sparkle Shot Maximum Impact - An upgraded version of Sparkle Shot that can only be used when Glitter Spring has her Ultra Power activated. Glitter Spring's leg glows with magical wind. Then, she directly kicks her target, sending it flying. The attack is first used in episode 14 (season 2). In the original Japanese version, it is called March Shoot Impact.

Group Attacks

  • Tiara Mode Torrent - The first group attack that she first used with Glitter Lucky, Peace, Spring and Breeze in Episode 11. To perform it, they need to be in Tiara Mode and use their jewel-shaped Glitter Charms. In the original Japanese version it’s called Rainbow Healing.
    • Rainbow Burst - The second group attack, which appears in Episode 20 and requires the use of the Princess Wands while in Princess Mode.
      • Royal Rainbow Burst - An upgraded version of Rainbow Burst. Not only does the Glitter Force need their Princess Wands and to be in Princess Mode, but they also need Candy and the Royal Clock. The attack is first used in Episode 27. For the most part, it retains its name in the original Japanese version, but the version in Episode 40without the Royal Clock is called Ultra Rainbow Burst.
      • Miracle Rainbow Burst - The ultimate version of Rainbow Burst and the Glitter Force's final group attack. For this attack, the Glitter Force must be in Ultra Mode, Candy must be transformed into Queen Candy, and all six must have the Miracle Jewel. It is used for the first and only time in Episode 40.
  • Sparkle Fire Shot - An combined attack performed with Glitter Spring, used only in Episode 19. Glitter Spring creates a wind ball, which she throws to Glitter Sunny, who combines it with her fireball. Once both are combined, the attack is thrown at the enemy. In the Japanese version it’s called Fire Shoot.
